What Happens When a Renewal Payment Fails
29 October 2026 · 6 min read
A failed card charge does not have to mean instant downtime. You get a grace window to pay, update billing, or buy more time on the same plan.
Grace keeps the site online
If automatic renewal fails, the service can move to a past-due state with a grace period (commonly about seven days). During that window your website and email stay up so you can fix billing without an emergency restore.
The service page shows that you are past due, how much grace remains, and clear next steps. Watch for HostPanda billing email when a charge does not go through.
Pay, update the card, or extend
Pay the open invoice from Billing or the service attention prompts. Update the card on file under Billing so the next retry or renewal can succeed. Once the outstanding amount clears, the service returns to active.
Still on the same package and need more paid time during grace? Use Extend hosting on the service. Package upgrades and downgrades stay locked until the open invoice is cleared; extending the same plan can still be available, including a promo code when you have one.
- Site and mail stay up during grace.
- Pay the open invoice to restore active status.
- Update payment methods in Billing.
- Extend hosting can buy more time on the same plan while past due.
After grace ends
If the invoice stays unpaid past grace, the service can suspend. That is harder to reverse under pressure than fixing the card during the window. Treat grace as spare runway, not a long-term plan.
